The antiquity of Somnath Temple cannot be ascertained by the mortal human brain. Somnath temple is older than history itself. Modern historical records only document fake colonial propaganda as the history of Somnath. When was Somnath temple established? Why was it established? And for what purpose was it established? The earliest record of Somnath temple comes when Varahadeva lifted the earth from the Garbhodaka ocean. Brahma establishes all places of Tirtha on the earth. One of the tirtha that he established again is Someshwar on the confluence of Sagar and Saraswati river. Saraswati is the only river in the world that goes in East as well as western directions. In the west it comes down via Rajasthan and merges into Sagar at Prabhas Kshetra. It is here that the Someshwar Mahadeva was established by Brahma. The importance of this place during the time of Prahlad Maharaja was that it was at this place Vishnu and Shiva had delivered the moon from the shraap of Daksha. Therefore, Someshwar Mahadeva which is popularly known as Somnath Mandir has Shivling as well as Narayan standing behind Him. Also, there is a direction marker on the west of the temple, that proclaims that light reaches the abode of Yamaraja directly from there. Prahlad took his bath in the sangam of sagar and Saraswati, and then, he went to the temple to worship Shiva. This is the antiquity of Somnath. Somnath was visited by Prahlad Maharaja, Bali, Sugreev, Bhagavan Krishna, Balarama and also Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This temple was also visited by all Pandavas and even Kauravas. This temple is the crown jewel of Sagar. The name Arabian Sea is a colonial name which doesn’t represent the actual nature of this ocean. The Arabian Sea is surrounded by holy places starting from Somnath.

Somnath or Someshwar is a place of both Shiva and Narayana.

Narayana calls this place as one His favorite places where He is remembered and worshiped as Surya Narayan. When Sugreev is sending Sushena along with Archishman Vanar to the western direction to search for Mother Sita, he also mentions the presence of Somagiri mountains behind the confluence of Sagar and Sindhu river. Somvati mountains are the current mountains in Balochistan and Gandhar. Gandhar is the original name of the land that is named as Afghanistan today. The mountains of Gandhar have intrinsic connections to Somnath temple. The pilgrimage for most residents of this land was to Somnath. Somnath temple also served as a sea beacon light for most seafaring fishermen since antiquity. That’s why I said that Somnath’s history predates antiquity. The myth of Mahmud of ghazni invading this temple seventeen times was created by colonialists to take away the glory of this temple from Hindus. In the conversation between Angira and Bhishma, Angira informs that of all famous places of Tirtha, Pushkar, Prabhas, Naimisharanya, Waters of Sagar, Indramarg and Svarnabindu are the topmost. Here also, Prabhas is mentioned.

Prabhas kshetra has been the place of pilgrimage since time immemorial.

It is at this Prabhas Kshetra where Surya is worshiped, Bhagavan Krishna decided to leave this planet after His purpose on earth was fulfilled. Krishna could have chosen Vrindavan which is His favorite place, but He respected the sanctity of this tirtha and made this place even more famous. Devatas, Bhagavan and great Rishis create Tirtha. Not any place becomes a Tirtha. There are many places which are Tirtha on this planet which I have described in my book ‘The Original Atlas’. If a place is not connected to Brahma or Vishnu or Shiva, then that place is not Tirtha.

When one takes bath in Prabhas Kshetra they immediately become qualified to attain Swargaloka after their current life.

Balarama also visited Someshwar when he was on his tirtha yatra. Arjuna also visited here when he was doing his ashwamedha yagya after the Mahabharata war. He brought his armies on the outskirts of Prabhas Kshetra to maintain the sanctity of this place and waited for Maharaja Ugrasena to respect his mission. While being here, he again paid his respects to Somnath. There has been no temple in the world like Somnath which has been continuously worshiped for literally millions of years. It almost looks like the history has stopped in Somnath. When you visit here, then please just pray that your karma cycle stops and you get moksha. There is no other prayer than this in the whole world.
