2020 has been the most eventful year probably after 1945. The interconnected nature of the world became starkly visible. Economically, the maximum pain of economic hardships were faced by the economically unprivileged sections of the society.

As of writing this report 82.9m people worldwide were affected by Covid-19. 1.9 million people lost their lives to this pandemic.

The biggest expenditure in the world this year was healthcare, coming up to $9t. The second biggest expenditure was Education, coming up to $6.1t. The third biggest public expenditure was Military, coming up to $2.9t. We have to ask ourselves, are we becoming a healthier society? Since, we are spending the maximum on maintaining public health, it is a sign of something lacking in our lifestyles. As a percentage of health spending globally, the Europe and North America (excluding Mexico) continents spend 35% of global health spending. In terms of defense, Europe and North America (excluding Mexico) spend more than 40% of global defense spending.

In US Dollar terms, North America (excluding Mexico) and Europe spend almost 30% of Global spending in Education & Research. The net population growth in 2020 is around 82m which is more than last year. 

The events that make 2020 as most memorable are

  1. COVID-19 Global Pandemic, which affected international trade & commerce
  2. US General Elections 2020, which were alleged to have been widely fraudulent
  3. WHO’s inaction on the global pandemic was seen by all
  4. UN lost it’s relevance in the world due to Pandemic
  5. Indo-China Military conflict showed China as an expansionist nation
  6. Boycott of Chinese software Apps and Products by India
  7. Many American firms such as Apple, Oracle, Tesla, HP left the state of California for Texas. California won’t see any reduction in Taxes
  8. Russia and USA tested many new generation missiles with better accuracy
  9. SPACEX revolutionize space travel and satellite launches 
  10. UNHCR lost it’s image of impartiality
  11. USCIRF was globally condemned for it’s bias against Hinduism
  12. Missile Tests by Indian Armed Forces and Scientists to show their capability to Chinese

There have been many events that have marked 2020 permanently in the memories of all residents of the planet, but the most noticeable is the global pandemic that originated from the Wuhan laboratory in China.

In 2020, approximately $401b was spent on illegal drugs. Almost, 180 billion animals, fishes, birds and insects were killed for food in 2020. Are we building a kinder planet?

Approximately, 100K humans were killed in terror-related violence across the world in 2020. In contrast, the accident related deaths top up to approximately 1.4m. In another 42 years, oil will be finished from under the earth. 

While 2020 has been tough for most, 2021 we hope to be better. In 2020, more than 15m Bhagavad Gita were distributed.
